This project was to replicate an idle air control valve with variable solenoid operation, and a bimetallic thermostat for engine warm up.
This interesting valve has a cylindrical samarium cobalt magnet mounted to the main shaft. The magnet rotates inside the iron armature, and is activated by a bi-filar coil powered with a pulse width modulated power signal. Rapid prototypes of the valve body and other parts are shown at the left. This last image is showing in purple the areas that require secondary machining operations. |
